Access Panel Emergency Response

Time is critical during an emergency response. An access control system with locked gates, fences, or similar barriers can delay first responders from getting to where urgent help is needed most. First responders need the ability to override electronic gates for rapid access. Gate & Key Switch installation is the preferred safety solution at the entrance of gated apartment communities and roll up doors.

Rently’s Access Panels are compatible with Knox Gate & Key Switches, allowing first responders to quickly open electrical gates, manual gates, and roll-up doors – all without delay, force, or damage during emergencies.

Here are the two potential scenarios that would benefit from Knox Gate and Key Switches:

  1. Garage/gate access
  2. Entrance door access

Scenario 1: Garage/Gate Access

Once an emergency occurs, such as a fire, firefighters need to be able to quickly arrive at the scene without any obstacles. If the gate of the property is equipped with an access control system, firefighters will not be able to enter without a password or credentials, which will result in valuable time wasted.

However, If a Rently Access Panel is installed with a Knox Gate & Key switch, firefighters can directly open the door with a Knox key to save valuable rescue time. The specific wiring diagram is as follows:

  1. Wire the NO and COM dry contact output to the Open(NO input) and COM of the Gate operator control board.
  2. Wire the NO and COM dry contact output of a Knox Gate & Key switch in parallel so that the Key switch could by-pass the Access Panel to open the gate.

Scenario 2: Entrance Door Access

When an emergency occurs, first responders quickly arrive on-scene! If the entrance door is locked, how are they supposed to enter the property? When a Rently Access Panel is installed in that entry area with a Knox Gate & Key switch, firefighters can directly open the door with a Knox key to gain valuable rescue time.

The specific wiring diagram is as follows:

  1. Wire the NO and COM dry contact output to the Open(NO input) and COM of the Gate operator control board.
  2. Wire the NO and COM dry contact output of a Knox Gate & Key switch in parallel so that the Key switch could by-pass the Access Panel to open the door.
